September 18

Present Barry, Chris Jensen, Julie, Andrea

Guest. Nancy Strand

Chris J. route 116. Select board is fine with spending money to have an engineering study. They would like to have an estimate of what it would cost…

Barry will draft a proposal for engineering study.

There is a local road engineer that thinks we should just put the material on it and not spend the money on a study.

It worked the first time why wouldn’t it be good now.

Money may be needed for application process..

We discussed possibly having an interim report for what is needed and to get estimates for the cost of engineering study of 116.

Barry heard from Kevin Roy: The application for the permit as of August 27th “Status of the stage VI permits is pending Application has yet to be complete.”

NCES did file a transfer station report….

IF we did curbside pick up we would have more tonnage…PAYT would encourage people to recycle more …

Trying to determine how much trash Bethlehem actually generates.   Barry asked Kevin Roy for information about Bethlehem waste amounts. The info he got included waste from other places.

Pilot project on composting….

Vermont by 2020 will not be allowed to have food waste into landfills.

Kirstie Pecci from Boston is very big into Zero Waste…we discussed having a workshop . If she is willing to come we could invite surrounding towns’ infrastructure people. Julie will contact Kirstie.

Barry: Franconia transfer station…possibility of Bethlehem using that station…Julie who used that station regularly for her mom, said that it is very busy. Someone mentioned that it might be already at its max. But we could have them come talk to us about how they manage it and what their tonnage is and how it works and costs.

maybe also use Littleton just for recycling… what costs would be combined.

Will Carberry accept our trash if we are not collecting recycling at our transfer station.

Chris J. Is going to send a letter from Selectboard to waste management to find out an estimated cost for town wide curbside pick up. others have tried but haven’t received a response.

Look for Grants for help with the development of a “state of the art” transfer station. That would allow for composting, recycling…

Dept of Agriculture has loans.

An innovative and cutting edge transfer station would be an attractive characteristic of the town in the marketing for people who are looking to move to town.

Need to start talking about money to go into a Warrant article money.   Mentioned to have a presentation of what the money would be spent for…. (maybe a write up in Town Report)

When we get closer have presentations to schools for recycling and composting.

Next meeting…Wednesday, October 16
