BCC Golf Committee Meeting – Tuesday, June 14th, 2016 @ town hall.
Present: Jane Storella, Pat Bonardi, Gerry Blanchard, Victor Hoffman, Ned Johnson, Pete Rivers, Clare Brown.
Discussion:
Gerry pointed out that reciprocity is alive and well at BCC with several clubs. Clare had asked the question earlier.
Victor had 45 in this past weekend and they played at BCC and liked the course, not so much the restaurant.
Discussion on some recommendations that had been brought up:
Hotel next to the club on vacant land.
Cross country skiing during the winter months – promote it with base at club house.
Condo development – 16 acres at the Fairways side of BCC.
Have spring purchase of golf apparel in the golf shop.
Rate increase for weekend play – change as of July 1st. Will create revenue and needs to be done.
Maintain limited staff – this is in reference to rain, etc. If the weather is bad, send employees home, don’t have them stay around. Must be paid a minimum of 2 hrs. no matter if there for 10 minutes or two hours. Call and tell to stay home if inclement weather. Jane mentioned that the restaurant has to remain open because if you open and close at the discretion of the weather, then people will not come as the hours are not regular. Must be consistent hours!
Discussion of restaurant:
Patrick now knows what he needs as far as equipment and it must be obtained!
o No hood
o No grill
o No dishwasher
Ned states that the floor in the kitchen is terrible.
Victor states that the kitchen is not good in general and also mentions the floor.
DO HAVE a new ice maker
Leasing of equipment was discussed.
Need to go up on liquor pricing – it can’t be like the VFW!
A person for the beverage cart has been hired and all felt this is important.
Evelyn Blanchard suggested cold sandwiches, wraps, etc. until can get the restaurant equipped.
Need to establish a figure as to what it costs to operate prior to the year starting by using past years figures.
Clare made the point that the whole building is in need of repair, not just the restaurant. It has been neglected for many years and that has to stop. At the moment, the Benefactors and 300 club take care of many of the needs of the building. This should not be – it is a town-owned building! If it was to be upgraded and maintained, perhaps to the point of winterization – it could be rented out as a function facility during the winter and income generated.
Gerry will meet with Patrick and Larry and come up with a proposal to the board of selectmen on Monday, June 20th to get the kitchen needs taken care of. It is thought by the committee that this is imperative to the operation of the club. If it isn’t done, then the restaurant should be closed until such a time as it can be upgraded.
Jane looked into the blue attraction signs on the highway that businesses can pay to have information put on. The state charges $500 a year and in order to have it going in to town and going out, it would $1000. Decided not an option!
Fundraiser for the Country Club at the Colonial Theater. Jane is looking for a date for us, it will be a
Friday night.
Movie
Bands
Silent auction
50/50 drawing
o Other things in the mix to do
Membership drive was discussed as well. Get one organized.
Jane said we should remember that we have a local radio station to do some advertising, etc.
Next meeting – June 21st at 6:30 pm
Recorder: Clare Brown
