Bethlehem Board of Selectmen
Meeting Minutes
Bethlehem Selectmen Office
June 27, 2014
Present: Selectman Blanchard (acting Chairperson), Selectman Fiorentino, Selectman Glavac.
Chairperson Blanchard opened the meeting at 8:10am.
Chairperson Blanchard said they called this meeting to award the bid for the demolition of the Cruft
building. Chairperson Blanchard said he met with Jack Anderson and Selectman Fiorentino to review and compare the bids. He also explained the town voted yes on the warrant article appropriating $55,000.00 for the demolition of the building. Chairperson Blanchard explained the bids should not have included the tipping fee which was estimated to be around $19,000.00 because NCES offered the town a discount for the tipping fees. Chairperson Blanchard said some bids were eliminated because they were too high. He said the lowest bidder was eliminated due to lack of experience with demolitions per their list of prior jobs. Chairperson Blanchard said Spears Brothers did the initial demo the night of the collapse so they are familiar with the building and they were the second lowest bidder. Chairperson Blanchard moved to award the bid to Spears Brothers for $23,600.00 to remove and demo the Cruft building per the scope of work. Selectman Fiorentino seconded. It was noted that Spears Brothers intends to use the beams so that will reduce the tipping fee expense. It was also noted that they would be available to start immediately and will have it complete in 7 to 10 days. Selectman Fiorentino said a hearing was scheduled for the 155-B order on July 10th. A copy of the environmental report will be forwarded to Brenda for the hearing. Rita Farrell asked who did the environmental study and was told it was done by Scott Lawson Group. Carried 3-0.
At 8:25 am Chairperson Blanchard moved to adjourn. Selectman Glavac seconded. Carried 3-0.
Respectfully submitted,
April Hibberd
Administrative Assistant
